✦ Editorial Standards

Our editorial guidelines

We review every submission before distribution. Here's exactly what we look for, what we accept, what we reject, and how the process works.

Why we review every release

Every press release distributed by PressLaunch goes to real journalists who have agreed to receive submissions from us. Their trust is the foundation of our distribution network — and protecting that trust is how we make sure your release actually lands somewhere meaningful.

If we sent poorly written, misleading, or purely promotional releases, journalists would stop opening our emails. Editorial review isn't gatekeeping for its own sake — it's what makes the distribution valuable.

The review process

1

Submission & payment

You submit your release and complete payment via Stripe. Your release enters the review queue with a status of "Pending."

2

Editorial review

A human editor reviews your submission for newsworthiness, accuracy, formatting, and compliance with our guidelines. We do not use automated AI-only review.

3

Outcome: approved, revision requested, or rejected

If approved, we move to distribution. If we identify issues, we'll contact you with specific feedback and give you one opportunity to revise. Submissions that cannot be brought into compliance are rejected with a full refund.

4

Distribution

Approved releases are distributed to our media contact list, segmented by category. Releases are also published to the PressLaunch public press room.

What we accept

We accept releases that announce something genuinely newsworthy to an audience of journalists and media contacts. Below is a non-exhaustive list.

✓ We accept
  • New podcast, book, or product launches
  • Verifiable milestone announcements (downloads, sales, rankings)
  • Award nominations and wins
  • Partnerships, expansions, or funding announcements
  • Speaking engagements, events, or tours
  • Publishing or distribution deals
  • Industry-relevant research, data, or survey results
  • Community initiatives with real impact
  • Leadership hires or organizational announcements
  • Thought leadership with a specific, timely angle
✗ We reject
  • Pure advertising or promotional copy
  • Unsubstantiated claims or vague milestones
  • Fake, plagiarized, or AI-generated filler content
  • Medical or financial claims without evidence
  • Misleading headlines or content
  • "We exist" announcements with no hook
  • Defamatory content or attacks on individuals
  • Content promoting illegal activity
  • Spam tactics (mass announcements to wrong categories)
  • Releases with no genuine media contact information

Formatting requirements

Beyond content, your release needs to be formatted in a way that's usable by journalists. We check for:

Structure

Writing style

Length

300 words minimum. 700 words maximum. Longer releases lose journalists quickly — keep it tight.

Content standards

Accuracy

All factual claims in your release must be accurate and, where relevant, verifiable. If you claim your podcast ranked #1 in a category, that should be accurate at time of submission. We may ask for screenshots or source links for significant factual claims.

Quotes

Quotes must be real — meaning you or the quoted person would actually say those words if asked. We reject quotes that are clearly written by committee or that sound like marketing copy. A quote should sound like a human being talking.

Images (optional)

If you include an image, it must be a file you own or have rights to distribute. Do not submit stock images, unlicensed photography, or images that include logos or trademarks of third parties without authorization. Minimum 800px wide, JPG or PNG format.

Embargo requests

If you need to hold distribution until a specific date, note your requested embargo date in the release body. We honor reasonable embargo requests for dates within 14 days of submission. Contact us if you need to discuss a specific embargo situation.

Revision policy

If your release requires changes before it can be distributed, we'll send you specific feedback describing exactly what needs to change. You'll have one opportunity to revise and resubmit.

What we do and don't fix for you

Our editors correct minor typos and punctuation as a courtesy. We do not rewrite your release or ghostwrite missing sections. If structural issues require significant rewriting, we'll provide guidance and you revise. We do this because the release goes out under your name — it should be your voice.

Refund policy

If your submission is rejected after the revision round and cannot be brought into compliance, you'll receive a full refund. If you choose not to revise after receiving feedback, you may request a refund within 5 business days. See our Terms of Service for complete refund terms.

Questions?

If you're unsure whether your release meets our guidelines before submitting, read the Press Release Writing Guide or send us a message. We're happy to answer questions before you submit — we'd rather help you get it right than reject something that could have worked.
